The short answer: choose Pollença old town if you love history, squares, cafés and walking; choose Port de Pollença if you want the beach and the seafront on your doorstep. They are only a short drive apart, so wherever you stay you can enjoy both.
Pollença old town
Pollença sits inland, at the foot of the Tramuntana mountains. Life centres on Plaça Major, with its cafés and church, and the famous Calvari steps climb up from the town to a small chapel with wide views. There is a busy Sunday market, plenty of restaurants and a lively feel all year round.
Good for: walkers and cyclists, food lovers, anyone who enjoys a traditional Mallorcan town in every season.
Bear in mind: the beach is a drive away, and the old streets are narrow, with limited parking in the centre.
Port de Pollença
The Port is on the coast, around a wide, sheltered bay. Its seafront promenade, the Port de Pollença boardwalk, is lovely for a stroll, and calm, shallow water makes it popular with families and water sports.
Good for: beach days, young children, sailing and paddleboarding, an evening walk by the sea.
Bear in mind: it is busier in high summer, and some seasonal businesses close in winter.
Things to do in both
From the old town it is easy to reach the walking routes of the Tramuntana, the Boquer valley and the quiet cove at Cala Sant Vicenç. From the Port you can take a boat trip around the bay, hire a paddleboard or walk the seafront towards Alcúdia. Both have weekly markets, and both are lovely in the evening, when families come out to eat and stroll. Many of our guests spend mornings on the beach, come back to the villa for lunch by the pool, and head into the old town for dinner.
A third option: La Font
Villa Esquina is in La Font, a quiet residential area on the edge of Pollença. The old town is around a 20 to 25 minute walk away, and the Port is about a 15 minute drive. You get peace and mountain views at the villa, with the town and the coast both within easy reach.
