Do you need a car when staying in Pollença?

By Andy Evans, owner of Villa Esquina since 2017

The short answer: for most guests, yes, a car makes life much easier. You can walk into Pollença old town from the villa, but beaches, coves, supermarkets and the airport are all easier to reach by car.

Why a car helps

North Mallorca is full of places you will want to explore: the beaches around Port de Pollença and Alcúdia, small coves, mountain villages and walking routes. Many are best reached by road, and a car lets you go early, come back for lunch at the villa and head out again later. It also makes the weekly shop simple.

There is parking for four cars at Villa Esquina, so larger groups can bring more than one car.

What you can do without one

Villa Esquina is in La Font, around a 20 to 25 minute walk from Pollença old town, with its squares, cafés and Sunday market. Many guests enjoy walking in for breakfast or an evening drink. Keen cyclists will also find the area wonderful; see our guide to cycling around Pollença.

Buses

The TIB 301 bus links Pollença, Port de Pollença and Palma. It is not a direct airport service, and timetables change through the year, so please check the current TIB 301 timetable before you travel.

Walking and cycling

If you prefer to leave the car behind for a day, the lanes around La Font are pleasant for walking, and the old town makes a good destination for breakfast or an evening drink. Bike hire is easy to arrange in Pollença and the Port, and the flat roads towards the coast suit gentle family rides, while the mountain roads draw keen cyclists from all over Europe. Please take care on narrow lanes and carry water on warmer days.

Taxis and transfers

Taxis are available locally and transfers can be booked from the airport. They are useful for an evening out or for arrival day, but costs add up over a week.

Tips for driving

  • Book your hire car early for school holidays.
  • Choose a smaller car if you can; old town streets are narrow.
  • Use the car parks on the edge of the old town rather than driving into the centre.
