Welcome to Villa Esquina, Pollenca
Updated: Mar 17, 2018
During 2017, my wife and I hunted around the north of Mallorca for a family holiday home that we could share with friends, family and holiday makers. After a thorough search, we found Villa Groig, a superb structure and location, but in much need of a face-lift and a name change! So after purchasing the property in October 2017, we set to work on a complete refurbishment of the property and to transform it into Villa Esquina, our beautiful "House on the Corner".

The Property is set at the foot of the dramatic La Font hills, just a short walk from the beautiful town of Pollenca, where you'll find a wide selection of excellent restaurants, bars, shops, museums and bustling markets around the lovely Placa Major town square:

Pollenca town is also the home of the Calvari Steps, 365 steps from the town to the small church at the top of the hill, littered with various local produce shops and traditional Spanish homes. A great way to work off a tasty lunch in the town square!
The beach is just a 12 minute drive away, where you'll find more great eating and drinking venues on the newly pedestrianised beach front walk way alongside one of many surrounding soft sandy beaches.

Now you can see why we fell in love with Pollenca and the surrounding area. So, what can you expect from Villa Esquina refurbishment in 2018? Here are some pictures of how the villa used to look. As I write this post, the villa is still very much under construction. You'll see some of these pictures below so you can get an idea of how dramatic the change will be...

The house is undergoing a complete transformation. Interior walls have been removed and moved to make better use of the space, thanks to our good friend Natalie Blackshaw interior designer. You'll enjoy new discreet air conditioning, central heating for the winter months, new open plan kitchen, dining room and lounge, new traditional Mallorcan stone flooring throughout inside and out, and new bathrooms... the list goes on.

You'll notice that the outside of the villa has also changed colour. We've extended the pool to almost 16 metres long, repaved the whole patio area and relandscaped the garden; adding fruit trees, bushes and local plants as well as a new relaxing BBQ area (which will be called Pete's Bar - its a long story!) and an astro turf area for football, badminton and basketball.

The floor plans below give you an idea of how things will look when it’s all done. We're currently buying furniture and shopping for everything from knives & forks to bed sheets and towels. Its been a fun but thoroughly exhausting experience. We are nearly at the finish line, just a few more weeks to go until we have our own first family holiday there during Easter 2018.

This post should give you a flavour of how much time and love we are investing into this project. Villa Esquina will look exquisite by the time it’s ready for rental. My wife and I have stayed in villas all over the world and hope that what we’ve learned will help to make this place special. I'll shortly be heading out again with a bag full of about 20 or so family games from Cluedo to Monopoly Deal (our favourite family game, a short and quick cards version of Monopoly) because when you're on holiday you might not want to be in the snug playing pool, air hockey or relaxing in front of the 55" 4K LED TV with Blu-ray player (with loads of films), Xbox One and UK Streaming TV.
